The vineyard of Château de Péna lies over a terroir of clay and limestone,
consisting of soils of marl and black shale, locally known as "black stone”
spread over the foothills of the Corbières. This exceptional terroir, facing due
South and South-East in a seaward direction, produces a quite extraordinary red
wine, Château de Péna gives a wine that is deeply dark, with a heavenly bouquet
of warm stone and dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant liqueur, cooked burlat
cherry, light and Havana tobacco. On the palate, it gives amazing freshness and
length, is potent and marked by ripe tannins. Château de Péna should be enjoyed
at 18°C and goes wonderfully with dishes cooked in sauce and grilled meat.
