The skyline of Alsace makes it look like a gingerbread city. And each spring, the elegant storks fly in from Africa, symbolising a fresh start for the region's residents. Tradition dictates that the children of Alsace leave sugar cubes on their windowsills to tempt the storks to return each year. We loved this story and the storks also seem to be bringing lots of good fortune with them to this most beautiful of regions. The winemakers of the Alsace have certainly perfected the art of making this sweet and spicy white that works so well with fruity puds, fragrant Thai dishes and gorgeously creamy curries. It's spot on for vegetarians, too.
