Founded in 1885, Felipe Lagunilla was the man who worked hardest to rescue the
vineyards of Rioja from the
phylloxera crisis. Made a comendador by the King, he is known for leading
Spanish growers to replant vines grafted
with American rootstocks that were already resistant to phylloxera.
Bought by the giant Diageo and later by Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines,
the winery preserves the legacy of
Felipe Lagunilla and the winemaking tradition of one of the most traditional
wineries in the Rioja Alta.
