In 1860, Sassello, a small town in the heart of the Ligurian region, became the birthplace of a refined and exquisite delicacy: Amaretti Virginia. The pastry shop where this soft centred specialty was baked, soon became a favoured meeting place for both local folks and visitors, so much so, that the piazza onto which it overlooked, was named on local post-cards of the period as "Piazza of the Amaretti Virginia". Although over a century has since gone by, Amaretti Virginia continues to create and produce authentic specialities with the same baking artistry of the past.
