In the late 18th century, the word ‘plum’ was used to indicate ‘something desirable’, probably in reference to the tasty fruit pieces in desserts. Plums are a versatile fruit used in jams, baking, savoury dishes and drinks. Some types of plum can even by dehydrated producing another well-known fruit - the prune.
